Explaining a product in a short audio spot

Choose one product idea, put it in spoken order and preserve essential conditions in a short audio spot.

A short audio spot should let a new listener understand what the product does and why that may matter. Choose one product idea, put it in everyday words and leave time for a next step. A feature list can be accurate yet still fail to explain the product when heard once.

Find the essential explanation

Write a full description for your own reference. Then identify what a new customer must grasp before the offer makes sense. That may be the product’s action, the person it serves or an unfamiliar term. Choose the point that removes the biggest obstacle to understanding.

Try completing this sentence: “It helps someone do ___ by ___.” If the answer needs several clauses, narrow the explanation. Replace internal terminology with familiar language, but keep distinctions that affect the claim.

For a booking service, for example, requesting a time and receiving confirmation may be different actions. Do not compress them into an instant-booking promise unless that is how the real service works.

Put the idea into spoken order

Identify the sponsor, name a relevant situation, explain the product’s action and give a next step. A sentence may do more than one job. The explanation should arrive early enough that the listener knows what is being offered before hearing the action.

Cut repeated descriptions and features that do not change the main point. Keep an essential eligibility or offer condition audible beside the benefit it qualifies.

The ACCC can require businesses to back up claims and may take compliance or enforcement action if a business misleads.

Edit by ear

Read the script at a comfortable pace with the sponsor identification, names, pauses, conditions and final action included. If those elements do not fit, simplify the claim or offer.

Confirm the accepted duration with the publisher for the specific booking; one platform’s specification is not a rule for every podcast spot.

Listen to the finished audio at an ordinary volume. Check whether music or effects compete with the product explanation and whether any condition can be heard clearly.

Asking someone unfamiliar with the product to describe what it does after one hearing may expose confusing wording. That is a proposed clarity check, not a measure of ad effectiveness.
